Education in America

Tinker, tinker, tinker is what the "experts" in education are all about. Throw in the politicians and you have a real mess.
The experts keep looking for ways to justify their overpaid existence. Same goes for the politicians. Nothing is ever their fault. It is always someone else's fault.
Two things they absolutely refuse to understand is there are lousy students and many lousy students are the result of lousy parents.
These experts would have us believe that every student is a potential genius – an empty glass just waiting for "education" to be poured into them.
I am not suggesting the effort should not be made. I am suggesting 66% of the problem rests with the students and/or their parents.
Maybe we should charge the parents of low performing students with child abuse.

Happy July 4

I think I am like most Americans in that I am an American first and since 1964 a New Yorker second.
New Yorker, Californian, Texan, etc. is not anywhere near as important as being an American.
That goes double for being anything else including, man, woman, Christian, Muslim, whatever, straight, gay, whatever, black, white, brown, whatever, Republican, Democrat, whatever.
The only important label is being an American.
Happy July 4!

Pete Klein book review

www.allbookreviews.com

Genre: Espionage thriller
Title: The Exiled Element - A James Becker Thriller
Author: John L. Betcher
The Exiled Element is first and foremost a fun read. This is an espionage thriller you can easily imagine being made into a movie with some well known actors and some great special effects.
A husband, James "Beck" Becker who is a former special operative, and wife, Beth Becker, former CIA computer guru, team up in an espionage thriller that moves between Red Wing, Minn., Washington D.C. and Cairo, Egypt in this fast paced, well plotted espionage thriller.
At first the Becker’s don’t realize they are working the same case in different parts of the world. Things get dicey when Beth is captured as a spy in Egypt and Beck leads the rescue attempt after helping a friend in the local police track down a sniper.
When the action involves the wife, the story is told in the first person. When the action involves the husband, the story is told in the third person.
For the most part, the story takes place during current Egypt after the fall of Mubarak. But there are flashbacks scattered to show light on what led to the Becker’s becoming involved in an assassination plot to kill a U.S. Senator and the theft of Top Secret Air Force design plans.
The cast of characters are likeable and the story is as believable if not more so than movies and TV programs of this type.
To say much more would only take from your enjoyment but I will add this much. The story confirms what you suspect. Not all the smart people in government are all that smart and lives are put at risk because of it.

Confessions of an Online Male Prostitute

INDIAN LAKE -- Peter Klein takes a break from his vampire novels, "The Dancing Valkyrie" and "The Vampire Valkyrie," to explore the strange world of online prostitution and what might drive both customers and performers to meet in cyberspace.
The novella is published by Create Space and is listed in Books in Print, Ingram's database in the US and numerous online book stores.
Klein says, "The world of online dating is not limited to the Web sites advertised on TV and the Internet. There is another world, a stranger world, where a surprising number men and women, both young and old, are willing to bare all and do all live and on screen for those who are willing to pay a per minute fee. This is the world my character enters in the hope of revealing his repressed past and learning what his future might be."
The novella is about a middle aged married man whose sex life with his wife has been absent for a number of years. Yearning for some sex but not willing to go to bars or pay for some mutual fun and not yet willing to divorce his wife, he decides the Internet is the safe way to go and works up the nerve to see if he can get anyone to pay him to take off his clothes and perform what amounts to an online peep show.
Of course most who do stop by are gay men.
One day, one of his clients asks him to exchange emails to talk and maybe meet. He agrees even though he doesn't consider himself gay. He does because he has unresolved, suppressed issues from his distant past and tells himself this may be a way to see and resolve those issues.
