“The Dancing Valkyrie,” by
Adirondack author Peter Klein, is the story of a young woman, Mary Hoffman, who
is a librarian by day and who works nights as an erotic dancer at a topless
club in Schenectady, NY.
Blood and sex, and of course
love, but not the way humans think about it. This is the recurring theme
throughout The Dancing Valkyrie.
Mary, needing a rest from her
two jobs, a librarian and a dancer, takes a hike along a secluded trail in the
Adirondacks of upstate New York where she is saved from two predatory young men
by Beth, a beautiful, very rich woman who appears to be only slightly older
than Mary. The two join together for the rest of the trail, becoming
romantically involved along the way. Beth, it turns out is a very old vampire
who quickly introduces Mary to the mystical world she lives in.
The novel follows Mary’s rapid
acclimation into being what she was born to be - a vampire with a lust for both
blood and sex, and draws to a conclusion when she meets a vampire who lives to
kill other vampires - and whose name is Van Helsing.
In an odd way, this is a
coming of age story. Mary adjusts to what she has become and tries to carry on
the life she led before becoming a vampire. Her love for Beth deepens while she
makes friends with some humans and feels an obligation to protect them from
humans and other vampires. She doesn’t see herself as evil. Rather she sees
being a vampire as a gift she needs to learn how to wisely use.
The new, 2nd Edition is now available from Amazon and Kindle.
